Meet Alan Bray, a landscape painter from Sangerville, Maine. Born in Waterville, Bray studied at the Art Institute of Boston and the University of Southern Maine. He received his MFA in painting from the Villa Schifanoia in Florence, Italy, where he fell in love with casein tempera, the same fast-drying medium used in Italian Renaissance and late medieval painting.

Working in thousands of thin layers with fine, pencil-like brushstrokes, Bray captures the wonders of central Maine's elegant landscapes: tree-lined fields, vivid wetlands, misty forests, and more.

In this video, we explore Bray's technique, influences, and decades-long relationship with nature.
