How do two parents create a unique child? This video explores AP Biology Topics 5.1 & 5.2: Meiosis - demonstrating the chromosome movements that underlie inheritance!
Well use paper models of seven chromosome pairs to perform the Meiosis lab.
We break down how Meiosis I and Meiosis II physically model Mendels Laws:
Law of Segregation: Alleles on homologous chromosomes separate into different gametes.
Law of Independent Assortment: Non-homologous chromosomes assort randomly.
We then use Punnett squares to predict the inheritance of traits, including sex-linked conditions like red-green color vision deficiency.
Finally, we model fertilization to determine the final, unique genotype and phenotype of the offspring.
Perfect for AP Bio students and anyone fascinated by how chromosome sorting creates genetic diversity!
