Christie’s celebrates the pioneering sound and influence of British music icon Johnny Marr. This September, Marr’s Guitars: The Johnny Marr Collection comes to auction, with highlights on view in New York from 25 June to 1 July.
Since co-founding The Smiths in the 1980s, Marr has carved out an extraordinarily wide-ranging path across indie, rock, pop and film. From a prolific solo career and time with The Pretenders, The The, Electronic, Modest Mouse and The Cribs to collaborations with the likes of Pet Shop Boys, Noel Gallagher, Hans Zimmer, Billie Eilish and many more, his influence has reached artists, bands and audiences around the world.
Featuring around 80 guitars played by Marr, as well as amplifiers and equipment integral to his career — each carrying the songs, stories and emotions gathered over more than four decades.
