I did it. I'm on the leaderboard.
Is this is a good run? No. It is a decent run? No. Is it the run that I wanted? No. Do I choose to accept this run for what it is anyway? Absolutely. This is a solid demonstration of what the category can be, albeit one in which most things went a lot slower than they should have. I feel like I've laid the foundation for the run that ends in under 10 hours, even if there's a lot more work I'll need to do in order to get there.
There's way too much going on this run for me to be able to give my usual went well / went badly / went alright but could have gone better, but as a broad summary:
- I got a natural booted ball, saving me potentially a half-hour or more
- I stuck to the route pretty closely and only had one unexpected surprise, which was handled well after detected. In particular, I made *sure* to get Peach Strike out/Shut out Bowser in the first playthrough so that nothing could go wrong with it later.
- Many extra games were played, and numerous times I wasn't able to land crucial goals even after repeated attempts (Yoshi and Monty Mole 3 Home Plates were especially frustrating)
- Poor luck with fielding missions other than Booted Ball. I was able to get them eventually, but it did make Yoshi's playthrough a lot slower than it could have been
- Lots of false starts in general when shooting for annoying goals like Empty Base Bunt
- Note Block was achieved ~17 minutes into the run, but this was after literally three hours of attempts, which wore me out
I'm rerouting this category such that Mario will be the fourth playthrough instead of Yoshi. I'll also be looking into the Team Swap glitch that's recently been rediscovered and see if I feel like routing Glitched All Superstars, too. For now, I'm going to rest and figure out if I want my next run to be more of this or if I want to try and take the Bowser WR back.
