In this webinar we discuss the effects of climate change on Arctic marine mammal species distribution and the indigenous communities that depend on these species to preserve traditional harvesting practices and culture.
We focus on the Eastern Canadian Arctic and WSP’s approach to adaptive management for a mining development project and the potential impacts of the project’s vessel traffic on a summering narwhal population. Results from monitoring programs including visual and photographic aerial surveys, shore-based surveys, drone surveys, vessel-based surveys and a satellite tagging program will be discussed in the context of uncertainties related to climate change and impacts to Inuit communities.
This webinar is aimed at marine biologists, particularly biologists involved in marine mammal science, stakeholders interested in marine monitoring of industrial development, and industry clients involved in the permitting and monitoring of offshore marine activities.
