Mark Paikuli-Stride of ‘Ăina Aloha o Nã Lima Hana Farm works on 'aina in both Maunawili & Luluku, areas adorned with agricultural terraces, and flourishing lo‘i ecosystems whose waters were considered sacred and at one time used in traditional ceremonies and religious rites. The area in Luluku was considered a vital water source for Kāne‘ohe.
The region underwent changes during the construction of the H-3 freeway and Mark and his family were forced to leave the area. He has since returned to Luluku, actively participating in a collective effort involving Native Hawaiian community organizations and various agencies.
Their shared goal is the restoration and preservation of the ‘āina for future Mark Paikuli-Stride of ‘Aina Aloha o Nã Lima Hana Farm generations, aspiring to reintroduce agriculture and impart cultural traditions to schools and community groups.
