Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together.

Mandarin is a group of Chinese dialects spoken across most of northern and southwestern China. It includes the Beijing dialect, which forms the basis of Standard Chinese, the official language of China. Originating in North China, Mandarin is sometimes called Northern Chinese. Many Mandarin varieties, like those in the Southwest and Lower Yangtze, are not mutually intelligible with Standard Chinese. Mandarin has one billion native speakers, making it the largest Chinese dialect group, spoken by 70% of Chinese speakers across a vast area from Yunnan to Xinjiang and Heilongjiang. Its spread is attributed to easier travel and communication in the North China Plain and its expansion to frontier areas.

The Ngai language is classified as a dialect of Shaozhou Tuhua (unclassified Chinese variety of languages) located in Northern Guangdong province. The Ngai language is mutually unintelligible with other Shaozhou Tuhua dialects and other Chinese languages such as Gan, Xiang, Cantonese, Min, and Mandarin. Hakka, Cantonese, and Mandarin have influenced the Shaozhou Tuhua languages, however, the Ngai Language has also received influence from Min languages and local Yao languages. The Ngai language has few speakers left, mainly spoken by the elderly and little proficient in younger generations. In addition, the Shaozhou Tuhua languages and Ngai Dialect are spoken by both Han and Yao Chinese.
