Our video today is about a man protecting a Kangal mix from a German Shepherd. The Kangal is both larger in size and has the highest Bite Force of any Dog which is 743 per square inch as compared to a German Shepherd whose bite force is 235 per square inch. However, the bite force of Kangal has never been measured officially from a known Platform yet , so we don't know if they really have a bite force of 743 psi or not. Kangals have a distinct size advantage if nothing else over German Shepherd dogs.
And their biting force is also incomparable to that of a German Shepherd, even if it's not 743 psi. So, there is actually no comparison between the two breeds when it comes to power or fight. The particular dogs shown in these videos may have some traits of Kangals but they definitely aren't pure bred.
The dog in this particular clip is pure bred Kangal and you can tell the difference between size, body frame and stance of this beautiful dog. It's way larger and broader than a German Shepherd.
Having said that it doesn't mean German Shepherds are tiny dogs. German Shepherds are medium to large sized dogs. The breed standard height at the withers is 60 to 65 cm for males, and 55 to 60 cm for females. But some of them can grow even larger in size. German Shepherds are working dogs, and they were developed originally for herding and guarding sheep. So they were bred for same purpose as a Kangal was bred for. The only difference is that German Shepherds were there to fend off small animals such as foxes, jackals , cats etc.
They may be able to fend off larger predators such as wolves , bears , wild boars, etc if they were raised in such environment and they have a larger pack. Three to four German Shepherds won't be able to fend off or stop larger predators. On the other hand 3 to 4 Kangals may be able to fend off a larger predator as they have size, endurance, speed and bite force advantage. German shepherds are well known for being intelligent, loyal and at times protective. They're also brave and alert. This all makes them the ideal guard dog.
A well bred GSD does not need special training to be a good guard dog for its own home and family, as they are naturally protective of those they regard as their family, and the property they inhabit. They all have different personalities .
Some are very aggressive towards any body, some are very laid back and friendly but they all are protective if they have to be. They were herding dogs and that trait stays in their blood lines.
Coming back to our video of the day. German Shepherd saw a stray Kangal mix passing by the property that it was protecting. The guarding instincts of GSD kicked in and it attacked the Kangal mix. The Kangal mix went into submissive position within no time but German Shepherd was not letting it go. Luckily the owner of GSD was at the farm at that time and he was able to rescue Kangal mix from his GSD. Please note that we make these videos for information purposes only. They aren't meant to degrade any of the dog breeds. All dog breeds were bred for a purpose and we should always take that into consideration. For example no one can expect a retriever to be a great guard dog, cause it wasn't meant to be.
So every dog is good for the purpose they were bred for and this kind of limit their effectiveness in certain areas. However, training and environment also plays and important role and two dogs from same breed can be totally different in nature.
