Willâs campervan project is a perfect example of how determination, creativity, and a willingness to get covered in dust can turn a battered old van into a clever, compact home on wheels. Starting with a well-worn Caddy Maxi that once served as a builderâs faithful workhorse, Will dives into the transformation with enthusiasm and a surprisingly calm attitude toward rust, grime, and decades of questionable stains.
The journey begins with a complete strip-out of the vanâs interior. Seats, panels, flooringâeverything comes out. This bare-bones approach lets him inspect the hidden corners, prep for insulation, and clean surfaces that likely hadnât seen daylight since the vanâs early glory days. Armed with serious cleaning solutions and enough elbow grease to power a small engine, Will scrubs, washes, and restores every inch. Rust patches get sanded down and treated, exposed metal areas receive protective Hammerite paint, and the bumper gets a new lease on life thanks to white spirit.
With the van clean and rust-free, Will moves on to the soundproofing and insulation. He starts with sound-deadening mats to eliminate that metallic âtin canâ echo, followed by Thermawrap reflective insulation, which helps regulate temperature in both summer and winter.
