The Smart Fortwo battery has some screw terminals built in, but not enough for making it a 48 volt system. I will need some way to make positive and negative posts (terminals) on the battery.
I'm first opening up the battery to access the middle cells. Next, I remove the copper bus bar at the end of a 14 series of cells. The end cell will be the final positive or negative post. This is where I will need to attach a wire.
After making up some battery cables from 8 gauge wire I crimp on ring terminals. These are then bolted to the copper bus bar. The assembly can then be put back together.
