Cats Costumery | Making an 1840s dress Part III: the skirt @CatsCostumery | Uploaded July 2019 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
Hello everyone!

This is the last video (finally) in this small series documenting how I made my 1840s dress. I made a playlist with the other videos, you can find it here: youtube.com/watch?v=yZBZZR_0HJ8&list=PLXxaja7Ldgi1WTQc2fa6hDSck61PHuvR_

I don't actually have anywhere to wear this dress to (like all of my historical stuff), but I had fun making it nonetheless! Hopefully my adventure into this decade can help or inspire someone else to try it too.

More details about the foundations, including the corset, on my blog post: https://happilyevertaffeta.wordpress....

Some facts:
5 m of blue duchess satin at £8 p/m
4 m of white chiffon at £6 p/m
1m of cotton drill from my stash
Scraps of ivory satin
Each petticoat took me a week to make.
The bodice is based on a Truly Victorian pattern.
I used nearly 8 m of cotton organdy for the petticoats.
