sew_through_time | Making a victorian corset and how to choose the right pattern for your body @sewthroughtime | Uploaded August 2022 | Updated October 2024, 43 minutes ago.
In this video, I make a victorian corset from 1877 and discuss how to choose the right corset pattern for your body type. That way you'll have less work in altering it to fit your body while still maintaining the period-appropriate silhouette. I also walk you through some basics on how to figure out what body type you are in the ways that really matter with corsetry, your bone structure, and squishiness. Neither of these really have anything to do with your outwardly body size but rather are internal features unique to you no matter what size you are.
the pattern I used for my corset and a bunch of others can be found here

For my corset, I used a lightweight cotton twill for my fabric, heavy-duty zip ties for boning but you can use synthetic whalebone if you prefer, metal busk from a corsetry supply store online, grommets are 4mm, laces are a 3mm satin ribbon I had, and flossing is done with silk buttonhole twist thread in white and pink. upper lace with velvet ribbon worked through it were both from my stash and bought originally secondhand at a thrift shop.
