Tormach relies on rapid prototyping to get projects out the door and to the customer. Depending on the complexity of the prototype part, design and development can take a few days to a few weeks.

This weeks part was needed in two days, so to get it cut and tested, Jason knocked it out rapidly. The perfect soft jaws for this project happened to be some scraps from another job. These were mounted onto some CarveSmart workholding. Jason doesn't spend too much time worrying about efficiency when cutting soft jaws. What's more important is to get the jaws done quickly so the prototypes can be made right away. If the program cuts air for longer than usual, it's not much of a concern. In this case, his main concern was the diameter of the bores. Since that was critical to the success of the finished product, he spent more time dialing in the cutter compensation so the parts would fit perfectly.
