Hi! I first came up with this design at the beginning of 2019 and just finally finished it. Between then and now I've built my dowel maker for turning shop made dowels with a router as well as a cool cherry bench as a little test run.
I changed up my strategy a bit and decided to turn the dowels by hand on my lathe. I bought the extension and some new lathe tools and it "turned" out to not be too difficult. Sculpting the seat was a lot of fun and didn't take too long but there was a ton of sanding. I used a kutzall course dish for most of the shaping.
I added some subtle curves to the back rests using a flush trim bit and box template. The glue up was a bit hectic so next time I'll use an adhesive with a longer open time. The finish is simply two coats of danish oil.
