Stop-Motion Transformation of Magic Square MS-B66 Scattershot. HAD to be a quadruple-changer. Gets the job done. I don’t spend a lot of time on the alternate alternate mode, but suffice to say the knee segment orientations are the same as robot mode. That joint you overextend to get the head out of the way can be very tricky to put back into place because the two tabs that are part of it like to block proper rotation. I use the tabs themselves to get the leverage I need to get it to fold at the correct joint. All the steps are correct as shown, but not shown is the occasional angry little wrestling match to get that joint to fold properly.

Production Note: 1032 photos. 3 hour shoot.Tricky to figure out a way to handle four modes. Three allows for a simple “majority rules” determination of the primordial mode. But with four modes, this can (and does in this case) lead to inefficiencies. As shown, you have to change the knee stack orientation from robot/gun-thingie mode style to ship/torso mode style. But otherwise the ship is closest to the gun and the robot is closest to the torso. So something has to give. The transition not shown is how to go from robot to gun, you don’t actually have to change the knee stack orientation at all, but as shown you end up changing away and back again for no good reason. I’d say I did pretty good for only having gotten it yesterday at 2pm.

If you want to follow along, I recommend skipping to the speed run and using your , and . keyboard keys to advance by single frames. Every step of the transformation is documented in the frames of the video, in what I consider to be the best sequence. With minimal rubbing and minimal parts-parking.
