On the edge of Macclesfield Forest, a narrow stream tumbles down through the autumn-bronzed woodland, its waters chattering over moss-cushioned stones. Amber leaves spiral from the canopy above, carried briefly on the breeze before settling on the rippling surface and drifting away like tiny boats. The scent of damp earth and mist hangs in the cool air, and the forest seems to glow—burnished gold, russet, and copper in the soft afternoon light.
