Our Lady of Lourdes in Hednesford, often called the "White Church", is a Roman Catholic parish church and diocesan shrine dedicated to the Virgin Mary under her title from Lourdes, France. It stands on Uxbridge Street in Hednesford and is known for its striking French Gothic-inspired architecture and its important role as a local centre of worship and pilgrimage.
The present church was built between 1928 and 1934, designed by architect G. B. Cox in a free French Gothic style. It was commissioned following the vision of the parish’s early 20th-century priests to create a place that reflected the famous Lourdes shrine in France for people who could not travel there. The foundation stone was laid in 1928, and the church was completed and consecrated in 1934.
Within the church grounds is a replica of the Lourdes grotto, constructed around the same time and finished in the mid-1930s; this has become a focal point for devotion and annual pilgrimages that began in the 1960s. The shrine and church are both Grade II listed for their architectural and historic significance.
Today, Our Lady of Lourdes remains an active parish in the Archdiocese of Birmingham, offering regular Masses, sacraments, and hosting pilgrimages that celebrate its heritage and Marian devotion.
