Standing beside the flowing waters of the River Goyt in New Mills, Derbyshire, Torr Mill is a quiet witness to the industrial revolution that once roared through this valley. Once powered by water, and later by steam, this historic site was part of a network of mills that wove prosperity into the heart of the North West.
Though little remains of its towering structures, the foundations still tell a story — of workers and weavers, of ingenuity and industry.
Not-to-be-missed in New Mills is the Millennium Walkway, a 175-yard aerial walkway spanning a cliffside above the River Goyt and linking to Torrs Riverside Park.
The walkway won top prize in the British Construction Industry Award 2000.
The spirit of Torr Mill endures, etched into the landscape, carried by the river, and remembered in stone.
