I figured my mid-2009 MacBook patched to run Mojave would benefit from being downgrading to El Capitan, the newest supported version of MacOS for it. After a rocky start and finally getting it installed, I soon realized the implications of doing so; it's old enough to run efficiently on my MacBook's older hardware, but too old to run modern applications.
So what would be the next logical choice? Upgrading it using the DosDude1 Patcher to the newest unofficially supported OS capable of being installed on a 5,2 MacBook: MacOS Catalina!
In hindsight, I probably should've just left it running Mojave, even if it's a bit long in the tooth to run it with any degree of speed and agility. It's just new enough to still have fairly widespread software support, but old enough to support ancient 32-bit only applications like iMovie HD 6. Suffice it to say, it's back (un)happily running MacOS Mojave, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
Also, if you couldn't already tell, my knowledge of Macs is incredibly basic. This video was primarily meant to be a follow-up (and not a tutorial) to my original video reviewing the viability of using a mid-2009 MacBook in 2023.
