MacBook Neo
I have been waiting for this day, basically since Apple Silicon was announced. Pretty much when this channel began. When Apple would be able to build a Mac around not just a scaled up chip from one of their phones, like the A18X that ran the iPad Pro and later the Z variant in the Apple Silicon developers kit, but a straight up iPhone chip. But that day is finally here with the MacBook Neo. I honestly thought it was more likely to be some form of a low cost Mac mini - basically strip a base iPad of its touchscreen, chuck it in a little box like an Apple TV and let people plug into their TV - That could almost certainly be done for just a couple of hundred dollars and bring so many new users to the Mac.
But with desktop sales falling across the board, the MacBook Neo seems to be the answer. Is it a little stripped down, absolutely. But are any of these omissions likely to be dealbreakers
13” Liquid Retina display
Signature Magic Trackpad
Touch ID Optional extra
Magic Keyboard not backlit - but in WHITE like an iMac
Silver, Indigo, Blush and Citrus colour options
2x USB-C (1X USB3 speed, 1X USB2 Speed, Headphone jack & Side firing speakers
A18 Pro
Wifi 6E
Bluetooth 6
No MagSafe
16 hour battery life
2.7lb - chunkier than the Air - successor to the polycarbonate MacBook
$499 for Education
$599 with 256gb storage,
$699 for 512gb plus Touch ID
8GB only -
90% recycled Aluminium
100% recycled cobalt
This is a MacBook for the price of an iPhone 17e. That is insane
