First up, we’re now seeing alleged components for the upcoming iPhones including the one feature every tech youtuber has been crying out for, but I predict will cause outrage amongst normies, the USB-C port. While everyone’s been calling for it in the tiny tech bubble, last time Apple dared to change a port on the iPhone from the frankly enormous 30pin iPod connector to the much better lightning, people lost their minds. And when Apple put USB-C into their Laptops, EVERYONE complained and DongleGate was born. But of course, this time will be different, I’m sure.
On the other hand as a consolation, the latest rumours suggest that the switch to USB-C may bring much faster charging, up to 40W on wired iPhone charging, and 30W via MagSafe, both double what was available until now, though it’s not clear if the faster MagSafe charging will be available with the current chargers or a new generation too.
And in one final piece, 9to5 Mac has found references in code to a potential new variant of iPhone 14 alongside the iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max/Ultra - which could suggest Apple will switch the 14 models going forward to USB-C charging too. We’ve also heard rumours that a new version of the AirPods Pro case will be introduced with USB-C, but more on AirPods in a bit.
Next, and I promise we won’t dwell on dull financial news, ARM, the British company behind the architecture that Apple’s chips are built on is going public after a failed bit by Nvidia to purchase them outright from SoftBank. Potentially valued at $60bn, expect to see Apple, Nvidia, Samsung, Intel and others snapping up decent chunks of the firm’s stock to secure their futures. ARM was incorporated in 1990, but Acorn Computers, it’s predecessor started way back in 1978 in Cambridge. It’ll be interesting to see how the price moves once this hits the market, but will the change in the way the company is organised prompt more industry shifts? Will more companies start using the architecture or will profit drives push more away to RISC5 and similar? Only time will tell.

#icaveanswers. So if Apple releases the iPad Pro with OLED and an M3 next year—any idea how freakin expensive that might be? My current iPad is really resisting taking a charge after 6 years of abuse, but I’m not going to pay twice the cost no matter how nice the screen looks.
