A magnitude 6.6 earthquake hit the Java Sea 115 km NNE of Teluknaga, Indonesia, on Sept. 11, 2026 at 21:23 UTC (4:23 a.m. Jakarta time). USGS put the depth at 359 km (223 miles). The shock was felt as light shaking in Jakarta, Tangerang, and nearby cities. No tsunami and no damage reported. This was a deep slab quake inside the subducting Australian plate, not a shallow megathrust. Same week: Anak Krakatau remains at Alert Level III after its Sept. 4–6 eruption closed Jakarta airports; Semeru and Merapi are also erupting on Java.
