Pierre Certon (ca. 1510/1520 - 1572) was a French composer of vocal music, whereas Guillaume Morlaye (ca. 1510 - ca. 1558) was a lutenist and music publisher who adapted Certon's psalm settings for lute and voice, which latter part I play on the recorder.
These "psalm settings" are not of entire psalms but only of the first one or two verses of any given psalm, and the second to the last is not of a psalm at all but of the Canticle of Simeon from Luke's Gospel.
I have chosen paintings of King David, the traditional author of the psalms, to illustrate these pieces, though obviously that choice does not fit the Canticle of Simeon.
