Luminous Avenger iX 2 | Part 1: Pillar Outskirts
We finished one Luminous Avenger game, now it's time for the second one. Welcome to Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2.
Luminous Avenger iX 2 was released on Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Steam on January 27, 2022. It is the second game in the Gunvolt Chronicles series and is a sequel to Luminous Avenger iX. You'll also notice that this game has an English dub and that's what we'll be using for this playthrough.
The story takes place some time after the events of the first game. The Sumeragi Institute is under new management, courtesy of Blade. With the world safe, Copen (VA: Alejandro Saab) can now devote his time to his main passion: scientific research, aided by Lola (VA: Cassandra Lee Morris) and Kohaku (VA: Kira Buckland). One day, a strange weapon known as the Blaster Rifle appears, made with tech far beyond this world. Intrigued that other worlds may be possible, he continues his research. But then one day, an unfamiliar voice calls out, asking for help. The Blaster Rifle creates a wormhole that sucks in Copen, Lola and Kohaku.
They end up in a brand new world and they also find themselves outside a massive building, the Grave Pillar. The Grave Pillar is said to hold all the world's knowledge, guarded by strong robots known as Workers. It's here that the three meet a Worker named Null (VA: Natalie Rose Hoover). Together, the four head for the World Pillar, in the hopes of finding a way back to their world.
In terms of gameplay, the game is completely revamped. Your main weapon, the Blaster Rifle is used to attack and protect yourself from attacks. You travel from beginning to end, beating up enemies and building up Kudos. Once you reach 1000, you kick into Overdrive and you can be able to Bullit Dash and do multi-takedowns. You'll need it in order to get the highest ranking possible and that is “X” rank. The first stage covers the Pillar Outskirts and we face off against a mysterious Red robot. He doesn't speak but he is a threat. After beating it, we learn that we need Gate Keys in order to proceed further. Two are currently available so that's what we'll do.
Part 2 takes us to the Volcano Block.
