The Lotus Emira 420 Sport Test Drive shows what happens when Lotus gives the Emira more power, less weight, additional downforce, and an even sharper chassis setup. With 420 metric horsepower and a 186 mile per hour top speed, this is the most powerful Emira yet.
The new Lotus Emira 420 Sport Test Drive puts the focus on the Mercedes AMG sourced 2.0 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder engine producing approximately 416 brake horsepower and 500 Newton meters of torque. Power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels through an 8 speed dual clutch transmission, helping the Emira accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in just 3.9 seconds.
But the Lotus Emira 420 Sport is about much more than straight line speed. The available Lightweight Handling Pack brings 2 way adjustable Multimatic dampers, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, a titanium exhaust system, lithium ion battery, carbon fiber louvred tailgate, and significant weight savings.
Lotus has also reworked the aerodynamics, generating approximately 25 kilograms of additional downforce without increasing overall aerodynamic drag. Improved cooling, a lower suspension setup, and track focused chassis upgrades push the Emira further toward serious performance driving.
The Emira 420 Sport also introduces an available removable tinted glass roof panel inspired by classic Lotus sports cars such as the Esprit.
The big question after this Lotus Emira 420 Sport Test Drive is whether the lighter and more powerful 4 cylinder model is now the Emira to have, or whether the supercharged V6 and manual transmission still offer the better driving experience.
