Handling containers at the dock is only part of the equation at the Port of Long Beach. About two thirds of the cargo that arrives there ultimately travels east of the Mississippi, making rail connections to inland markets critical.

Port CEO Noel Hacegaba says continued investment in rail and infrastructure will determine how competitive Southern California remains as trade patterns evolve.
