After years of dedication and hard work, the historic Crystal Palace Subway in London has reopened for its 160th anniversary in 2025.
This breathtaking Grade II listed Victorian structure, the only surviving part of the iconic Crystal Palace complex, has undergone a major restoration, bringing it back to life for the public to enjoy.
With a brand-new roof over the East Courtyard and careful repairs to the walls, floors, and entrances, this architectural gem has been lovingly restored as part of Bromley Council’s Regeneration Plan for Crystal Palace Park. Thanks to the expertise of Historic England, architects Thomas Ford & Partners, and conservation specialists DBR Limited, the Subway is now ready for a new chapter under the care of Crystal Palace Park Trust.
This incredible £3.5m project was made possible by funding from the City of London Strategic Investment Pot, Historic England, and generous community donations. Huge credit also goes to the Friends of Crystal Palace Subway, who have worked tirelessly for over a decade to help bring this hidden treasure back into public use.
