Transport For London (TfL) want to stop selling daily 'ride at will' Travelcard tickets
Instead they want passengers using smart card / contactless ticketing with a cap (limit) on total daily charges

*the smart card / contactless device is not properly read at each end of their journey
*the journey took longer than the allowed time limit
*the passenger did not use the same smart card or contactless device at both ends of the journey

Usually journey time limits are breached when...
*there is a long delay during the journey
*a passenger left the railway at an 'out of station' interchange - and after a short while started a new journey without realising that the ticketing system regarded that new journey as an extension of the previous journey
*passengers using hand-propelled wheelchairs wait for staff assistance or stop for a rest
*passengers 'wait for friends' inside the 'fares paid' area

*savvy Londoners who wish to avoid journey time limits or have lost (had stolen?) their smart card / contactless device
*visitors from elsewhere in the UK who buy combined main line railway and one-day London Travelcard tickets
*married couples with two plastic payment cards on one account - as only one person can use these at a time
*holders of railcard discounts that are incompatible with almost all smart card / contactless payment systems
