The first Vivarail Class 230 D-Train has now entered full public service on the rural Marston Vale community railway route between Bletchley and Bedford stations.
The Class 230 fleet of D-Trains comprise former London Underground District line D78 subsurface rolling stock (NOT 'tube' trains) that have been rebuilt for use on 'less busy' non-electrified mainline railway routes.
For this service the trains have been fitted with diesel generator equipment that powers the their electric drive system.
Eventually there will three D-Trains on this service, with two in service at a time - three trains are needed to allow for regular maintenance whilst still providing a full service.
Whilst at Bedford station LMS steam engine 6233 Duchess of Sutherland is seen passing by.
