Hello, and welcome back to another train trip report! For this week's video, I will be reviewing LNER's older train, the BR InterCity 225.
Built in British Rail days for ambitious 140mph (225km/h) running, the Class 91 'Electra' and its Mk4 carriages were definitely the last flagship train of BR. They have been used solely on the East Coast Mainline (ECML) throughout their lifetime, but now are being replaced by the new LNER Azuma from Hitachi. Having already reviewed the new wheels (youtube.com/watch?v=psZoGMYtVM8), I thought it would be right to review the old too, before they are finally withdrawn from service.
This was very much a last minute plan, as I only found out about this route having any IC225 workings a few days before making the journey. Needless to say, I was very glad to have a ride, as just a few weeks later the last Class 91 to Edinburgh was operated.
With their big leather armchairs, and smooth ride, it's no surprise that these trains are so popular.
