I was just messing around with some chords on a guitalele at home, and then out of the blue our son brought it all to life with the Sazanami Drum. I really love the magical tones it has, and I was so into the notes he chose just improvising. Normally kids try to hit everything all at once. But maybe because each note rings out with so much sustain, he let the notes have room to breath. (If Yoshimi ever leaves the band we might have to get a Tweedy situation going for more father-son jams.)

Originally I just set up the iPhone to make a memo of the melody, but I’m glad it was shooting a video too because now I’ll have a memory of this if we both ever become jerks when he is a teenager and I have a mid-life crisis and stuff!

Also, making songs is cool and stuff but my favorite father-son thing of all these days is getting my butt kicked ruthlessly on classic Dr. Mario. I never played that one when I was little but it might be the best Nintendo game of all! I swear I'm going to win one of these days.

Thanks to Keisuke at Sazanami Drum for sending us such a nice instrument. I really love playing it a ton, even as much as Dr. Mario!
