Palestinian protesters gather along Gaza’s border with Israel for the annual ‘March of Return’ to commemorate 'Land Day'.

The annual rally takes place to demand what Palestinian protesters say is their right to return to the homes of their families in what is now Israel.

Despite the assurances of organisers that the march will be peaceful, there are fears of an escalation, with the UN urging "all sides to exercise restraint".
