Topic: A Tale of Two Grandmothers: How a Promise Made is Changing Alzheimer’s Disease Diagnosis and Care in Rural Georgia

Evelyn and June were both diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease at age 80. Their granddaughters, Lisa and Jenay, watched first-hand how these women lived, and what it took to care for them. Lisa and Jenay teamed up to turn their passion for making life better for older people, particularly those living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, into action by creating the Cognitive Aging Research and Education (CARE) initiative. In this presentation, we will discuss this rural Georgia-focused initiative provides community and healthcare provider education, local healthcare infrastructure development to improve access to specialty care, and post-diagnosis support for persons living with dementia and their care partners.
