This talk will focus on highlighting some of the current limitations that are present within many university settings and curricula which can make it difficult to effectively teach and meaningfully enhance engineering students’ creativity skills during their studies. The talk will also focus on identifying different possible ways to address these concerns, including the merits of directly teaching students creativity and ideation heuristics. The effects that these can have on issues such as overcoming idea fixation, or spending insufficient time on understanding or framing the problem will be discussed.
