Cluster of storms north of Pilger, NE began as a cluster of embedded supercells which became outflow dominant. The stacked plates of the meso converted to a shelf cloud / bow echo and raced southward while thousands of lightning strikes illuminated the storm.

Anvil Crawlers are a type of lightning that crawls the sky in the, you guessed it anvil of the thunderstorm. This is an area where upper level winds have sheered off the top of the Cumulo Nimbus cloud. They are full of tiny ice crystals moving at different speeds, creating static charge. The anvil of a storm covers hundreds of square MILES and is usually around 40 to 50 THOUSAND feet above ground. When this static builds up, it is released over a massive area of the sky, filling even the widest angle lenses with incredible lightning displays for your camera to enjoy. Even better at high speed!
