Tech details: ~280 15MP images taken with a Canon T1i. Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 set @11mm f4.0 ISO 400. 25 second exposures every 30 seconds. Video was created with Virtualdub's jpeg sequencer to a 30fps AVI. Then compressed and slowed down to 10 fps.

Anvil Crawlers are a type of lightning that crawls the sky in the, you guessed it anvil of the thunderstorm. This is an area where upper level winds have sheered off the top of the Cumulo Nimbus cloud. They are full of tiny ice crystals moving at different speeds, creating static charge. The anvil of a storm covers hundreds of square MILES and is usually around 40 to 50 THOUSAND feet above ground. When this static builds up, it is released over a massive area of the sky, filling even the widest angle lenses with incredible lightning displays for your camera to enjoy. Even better at high speed!
