In the remote mountains of Nepal, where villages cling to steep Himalayan valleys and daily life is shaped by isolation, poverty and tradition, women carry much of society on their shoulders. They care for children, livestock and crops, often while enduring deeply patriarchal customs that still limit their freedom and independence.
But across these rugged landscapes, change is beginning to emerge. Through the organization Empowering Women of Nepal, young women from remote communities are trained as trekking guides, gaining financial independence, education and a new place within Nepali society. For many, it is the first opportunity to leave their village, earn their own income, and imagine a different future.
From dangerous mountain trails to overcrowded homes, from forced marriages to maternal healthcare crises, this documentary follows women determined to reclaim control over their lives while remaining deeply connected to their culture and communities.
More than a story about trekking, this is a portrait of resilience, solidarity and transformation in one of the world’s highest and harshest environments.
