This is the Linacre Road level crossing at Hampton, it is located on the Sandringham Line in southern Melbourne. These signals were installed on December 19, 1956 and this is the oldest surviving gated installation in Melbourne which still has much of it's original equipment.
Both signals have unmarked bases, WRRS gate mechanisms and Artcraft gate lights. The front facing lights are early style McKenzie & Holland incandescent lights, while the rear facing lights have been replaced with Westinghouse incandescent lights. For some reason the rear facing lights on the eastern side are mounted on a separate mast with an unmarked base, most likely to improve sighting. The bell on the eastern side is a General Signals adjusted Type 1 which sounds for the entire activation, while the bell on the western signal is a recently installed General Signals Type 3 which sounds until the gates have lowered.
