In this video, I am providing a demo of a frustrating problem with my Level Bolt smart lock following the latest v2.31 firmware upgrade. I’ve owned this Level Bolt since August 2022, and it has worked beautifully, until I updated the firmware yesterday (July 1, 2026). Now, the lock has stopped working properly, and I’m documenting the exact behavior for this video, recorded today on July 2, 2026.
We walk through the exact bugs introduced by firmware v2.31, along with a complete list of my troubleshooting steps to rule out hardware failure.
The Problems I Am Facing:
- The Main Issue (Offline When Unlocked): The exact moment the Level Bolt is unlocked, it completely disconnects from the app/network.
- Can’t Fully Unlock: When attempting to unlock the door, it only retracts the bolt partially before failing and throwing an error message.
- Can’t Lock (Auto-Lock Broken): Because it instantly disconnects when unlocked, the app cannot lock it remotely. This also breaks the built-in 30-second Auto-Lock feature entirely.
- Can’t Calibrate: The calibration tool requires unlocking the door as Step 1. Because unlocking cuts the connection, calibration is completely impossible.
- Apple Home Integration Broken: Attempting to re-pair or add the lock to Apple HomeKit fails instantly with an error.
Troubleshooting Steps I’ve Taken (To No Avail):
- Power Reset: Removed the battery, waited over 30 seconds, and replaced it.
- New Battery: Despite a good battery indicator in the app, I replaced it with a brand-new Energizer CR2 Lithium battery.
- Hardware Factory Reset: Fully disassembled the lock, held down the physical factory reset button, deleted the lock from my Level account, and re-added it.
- App Reinstallation: Uninstalled and reinstalled the Level Home app on my mobile device.
