If you haven't guessed from the name of this level and the initial location you spawn in, this is a remake of E1M1 from Doom. The developers knew that someone was going to make it the moment they got access to the level editor that's a part of this game, so they decided to beat them to it.
It's got all the things that you've come to expect from a remake of the fist level of Doom, with approximations of enemies and hazards placed to make it as authentic as possible. It's one of the shortest levels I've played out of all the campaigns too, provided you want to rush past all the enimies and not engage in heroic vandalism.

Wave upon wave of poorly prepared guards have been thrown against us, all to no avail. General Darian and Sebastian Doyle Krist barely slowed us down and not even the NME could stop our rampage through the stronghold. All hope seems lost. Truly, this is El Oscuros darkest hour.
...But there is still one who can possibly stand up to Doug Wendt and the other members of HUNT. Hes the strongest, fastiest, nastiest solder that El Oscuro has but more than that, hes aboslutely the coolest. After all, only cool people wear sunglasses and throw out cheesy 90s references while fighting.
This is the story of the one enforcer that could maybe, just maybe, stop HUNT in their tracks.

Those that had played the original game came into the sequel knowing that thered be a particular type of enemy that would eventually show up. They took the limelight from the Covenant as the number of threat not just to humanity, but the entire galaxy, and our first encounter with them was in quite possibly one of the worst levels in a first person shooter from that era.
I am, of course, talking about the Flood. As this is a forerunner facility that the Heretic is stationed on, it makes sense that theres some of them contained here... at least, they WERE contained. Their newly found freedom presents a very awful complication in our mission to take out the Heretic, but the Artiber is nothing if persistant... and yet, his meeting with the Heretic and the one that made him so will ignite the embers of doubt within the Arbiter, a flame that, try as he might, he will not be able to extinguish.

With Ondras Witness recovered, we have the key needed to reach the reliquary. We got it by freeing those of the Low Tide which, while a good deed, has alerted the high abbot and everyone else in the main abbey that someone is here that shouldnt be. Theyre sure to be guarding the reliquary which means we have a pretty difficult fight in our future.
Presuming that we survive that, we will finally have a chance at stopping the Eyeless from destroying the whole region. Said chance comes partially from what well find in there, but mostly from the goddess that this temple is dedicated to. Its not the first time Lyrin will have spoken to a diety, but this conversation is going to far longer.
