Here I am again. If you missed the note at the beginning, I've written it here as well:
Context:
Set after the Madrigal’s lose their powers. Dolores no longer has super-hearing and is feeling conflicted about it. She’s up late pondering the silence she’s never been able to truly bask in before, while also finding it a bit unsettling, because she had become used to the noise, as burdensome as it felt sometimes. Felix hears her singing and decides to check on her. As boisterous as he is, he’s always been thoughtful with his daughter and her gift, and tries to teach her the importance of silence, and how freeing it can be. Pepa notices her husband is out of bed and finds him and Dolores having a heart-to-heart. The two of them do their best to comfort their daughter.
I ended up changing directions with this song at least 3 times, I've got the Logic files to prove it. I may end up posting my other version, which is admittedly a lot happier sounding. Something in my brain just really doesn't like major chords, huh. Also, I changed fonts because copy and pasting every letter into Photoshop was making me question my sanity. I really hope y'all like this one, I'm not sure how I feel about it, but that happens with like everything I make. The next song I'll post is my demo of "Stage Fright", which was Camilo's Interlude before I made it PG. If y'all haven't questioned my mental state yet, hoo boy, you will. You will.
Notes about this song if you're interested:
The melody at the beginning is very similar to the scrapped melody I had for Camilo's Interlude, which is in my Lyric Breakdown video, if you wanna hear it.
Dolores could very likely hear her own heartbeat with her super-hearing, which is why I included the heartbeat sound throughout this song. The reason she's conflicted about her gift leaving is that it brought her comfort to know what was going on. Nothing surprised her, since she heard everything coming from a mile away. Now she's got to readjust to the unknown.
I used the same music box from On The Inside. My earlier version of the song was going to be with ukulele, then piano, and finally I decided on the music box. I recorded the vocals softer due to Dolores' habit of speaking quietly.
The little instrumental/vocal interlude after Dolores' first verse is when I imagine Felix hearing her, then deciding to go check on her.
My mention of Bruno wasn't entirely due to my crush on the man, but I do believe that he would have a complicated relationship with silence, due to his life in the walls. Had to be lonely. Also I'm proud of my "hourglass" line, hehe.
Pepa and Felix are the best hype couple, so the line "Ask your father/mother here" is meant to allude to their unconditional support of one another.
Dolores saying that Pepa stole Felix's thunder refers to her jumping into the conversation to throw in her motherly two cents, because she tends to take the spotlight in everything she participates in. Felix is 100 percent on board with this. Also, stealing one's thunder is a cute little reference to Pepa's powers. She's still unapologetically herself even after losing her Gift.
