Recorded October 10, 1930

"Body and Soul" was written in 1930 by Robert Sour, Frank Eyton and Johnny Green. Libby Holman introduced it in the revue "Three's a Crowd" and was a soundtrack theme in the 1947 film named for the song. "Body and Soul" became a jazz standard, with hundreds of versions performed and recorded by dozens of artists.

Violinist and bandleader, LEO REISMAN was born in Boston in 1897. He began studying the violin at age ten and by his early teens was performing with hotel bands and in 1919 formed his own band. Dubbed The String Quartet of Dance Bands by Jerome Kern, the Leo Reisman Orchestra featured pianists Eddy Duchin, Harold Arlen, Nat Brandywynne, Johnny Green vocalists Fred Astaire, Lee Wiley and Dinah Shore, trumpeters Max Kaminsky and Bubber Miley and cornetist Johnny Dunn. Reisman died on December 18, 1961 in New York City.

FRANCES MADDUX (1908-1961) was an American pianist who, in her youth, played with the L.A. Philharmonic Orchestra as a soloist. After a stint as a song plugger for a New York music publisher, she was introduced to popular music and jazz, and began performing at private parties. She moved to London, and by 1929, began performing at the Café de Paris. Returned to New York to sing and record with Leo Reisman's orchestra. She also sang with Rudy Vallee and Abe Lyman Orchestras. To London in 1933 where she recorded for Columbia. In 1935, after coming back to the U.S. Maddux was cast in the original comedy "There's Wisdom in Women" (1935). In 1949, she made her last professional appearance at the Maisonette of the St. Regis Hotel. Maddux was often noted for her charming personality, a large repertoire of "sophisticated songs" and as an accomplished pianist.
