This quick guide covers how to open the disassembly of the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 1 and provides step-by-step instructions for replacing the M.2 2280 NVMe SSD. Step 1: Disable the Built-in Battery
Before starting the disassembly, disable the built-in battery through the BIOS to prevent any risk of electrical damage. Power off the laptop, restart it, and enter the BIOS. Locate and select the battery disable option under the power settings.
Step 2: Remove the Base Cover
Loosen the six captive screws on the back cover using a screwdriver. Since these screws are designed to stay attached to the cover, you don't need to worry about losing them. Once they're loosened, use an opening tool to gently pry off the cover and set it aside.
Step 3: Remove the Old SSD
The M.2 2280 NVMe SSD is located above the battery on the right-hand side. Remove the screw securing it in place, then carefully slide out the old SSD.
Step 4: Install the New SSD
Insert the new M.2 2280 NVMe SSD into the slot, ensuring it's properly seated, then fasten it securely with the screw.
Step 5: Reassemble the Laptop
After the new SSD is installed, carefully reassemble the laptop. Replace the bottom cover, tighten the screws, and ensure everything is correctly aligned.
Step 6: Test
Reconnect the USB-C charger to re-enable the built-in battery. Power on the laptop and check that the new SSD is recognized by the system.
