A new global report launched at the World Health Summit 2025 outlines preparedness priorities to protect people worldwide from future pandemics and other health crises. The new Global Preparedness Monitoring Board (GPMB) 2025 report calls for scaled up investment in primary health care, real-time risk assessment, and international cooperation to ensure local and global communities are ready to prevent and respond to the next pandemic.
The report outlines three pillars of action:
Care: Invest in primary health care, empower communities, and protect the health workforce.
Measurement: Build a real-time pandemic risk monitoring system that integrates health, social, economic, and environmental data.
Cooperation: Strengthen global health architecture rooted in solidarity and equity - through the WHO Pandemic Agreement, Pathogen Access and Benefits (PABS) system, and International Health Regulations.
Co-hosted by the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board (GPMB) and the World Health Organization (WHO), a panel of global leaders and experts – including Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus (Director-General, World Health Organization), Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović (Co-Chair, Global Preparedness Monitoring Board, and Former President of Croatia), Joy Phumaphi (Co-Chair, Global Preparedness Monitoring Board), Victor J. Dzau (Member, Global Preparedness Monitoring Board), Helen Clark (Chair of the Board, Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research), and Ilona Kickbusch (Member, Global Preparedness Monitoring Board) – discussed the report’s key findings and the case for investing in stronger foresight and early warning capacities.
