Alex Laughlin showed why drivers matter just as much as horsepower Friday at zMAX Dragway.

After the finish line during Pro Mod qualifying at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, Laughlin’s parachutes failed to deploy on his DIXXON ’68 Camaro. What followed was a violent slide, a spin, a J-turn correction, and a save that could have ended far worse.

Instead of disaster, Laughlin gathered it up, scrubbed the wall, and still laid down a 5.738 at 249.76 mph.
