From a mathematical surface point of view it is just another Schwarz' P surface, but it is really special that while building the shape at some point internal tension rises to the point that the symmetry gets partially distorted. There are 2 directions in which the distortion can take place, but when building the shape larger, automatically the symmetry gets distorted the same way all over the build.
