G'day everyone,
This is part 4 in the lathe rebuild series. I am glad to say that the cross slide itself has been finished, and now I need to start rebuilding the tool post and compound. The tool post itself will have to wait till next week, but this week I can make a start on rebuilding the compound. Instead of making a compound that can cut tapers, I am more focused on making one that prioritizes rigidity. I had a design like the one that I am going to make on the old lathe and it worked well.
I am going to be using cold rolled steel for this, and to prevent it warping like it did when I made the cross slide, I am going to anneal it. Due to the heat wave the came through NSW this week I lost a few afternoons where I could have ben doing this project, so unfortubately this project will have to be continued for another week.
Thankyou for sticking along with it, these multi part videos are not usually what I am to do, but for a project this big, it needed to be done.
