स्कंदमाता, दुर्गा के नौ रूपों में से पाँचवाँ स्वरूप है। नवरात्रि के त्योहार के पाँचवें दिन सकंदमाता की पूजा व आर्चना की जाती है। सभी भक्त इस दिन स्कंदमाता की पूजा और आराधना करते है। नवरात्रि-पूजन के पाँचवें दिन का शास्त्रों में पुष्कल महत्व बताया गया है। इस चक्र में अवस्थित मन वाले साधक की समस्त बाह्य क्रियाओं एवं चित्तवृत्तियों का लोप हो जाता है। वह विशुद्ध चैतन्य स्वरूप की ओर अग्रसर हो रहा होता है।
स्कंदमाता का स्वरूप
मोक्ष के द्वार खोलने वाली माता परम सुखदायी हैं। माँ अपने भक्तों की समस्त इच्छाओं की पूर्ति करती हैं। स्कंदमाता की चार भुजाएँ हैं। स्कंदमाता की दायीं तरफ की ऊपर वाली भुजा से स्कन्द को गोद में पकड़े हुए हैं। नीचे वाली भुजा में कमल का पुष्प है। बायीं तरफ ऊपर वाली भुजा में वरदमुद्रा में हैं और नीचे वाली भुजा में कमल पुष्प है। इनका वर्ण पूर्णतः शुभ है। सकंदमाता कमल के आसन पर विराजमान रहती हैं। इसी कारण इन्हें पद्मासना देवी भी कहा जाता है। इनका वाहन सिंह है।
भगवान स्कंद ’कुमार कार्तिकेय’ नाम से भी जाने जाते हैं। ये प्रसिद्ध देवासुर संग्राम में देवताओं के सेनापति बने थे। पुराणों में इन्हें कुमार और शक्ति कहकर इनकी महिमा का वर्णन किया गया है। इन्हीं भगवान स्कंद की माता होने के कारण माँ दुर्गाजी के इस स्वरूप को स्कंदमाता के नाम से जाना जाता है।
पूजा
पहाड़ों पर रहकर सांसारिक जीवों में नवचेतना का निर्माण करने वालीं स्कंदमाता। नवरात्रि में पाँचवें दिन इस देवी की पूजा-अर्चना की जाती है। कहते हैं कि इनकी कृपा से मूढ़ भी ज्ञानी हो जाता है।
पूजा का फल
शास्त्रों में इसका पुष्कल महत्व बताया गया है। स्कंदमाता की उपासना से भक्त की सारी इच्छाएँ पूरी हो जाती हैं। भक्त को मोक्ष मिलता है। सूर्यमण्डल की अधिष्ठात्री देवी होने के कारण स्कंदमाता के उपासक अलौकिक तेज और कान्तिमय हो जाते हैं। अतः मन को एकाग्र रखकर और पवित्र रखकर इस देवी की आराधना करने वाले साधक या भक्त को भवसागर पार करने में कठिनाई नहीं आती है।
Skandmata is the fifth form out of the nine forms of Durga. Sakandmata is worshiped on the fifth day of the festival of Navratri. All the devotees worship Skandmata on this day. The significance of Pushkal has been told in the scriptures on the fifth day of Navratri-worship. All the external activities and mental attitudes of the seeker with the mind situated in this chakra disappears. He is moving towards pure consciousness.
Form of Skandmata
The mother who opens the doors of salvation is the bestower of happiness. Mother fulfills all the wishes of her devotees. Skandmata has four arms. He is holding Skanda in his lap with the upper arm on the right side of Skandamata. There is a lotus flower in the lower arm. On the left side, in the upper arm, there is a lotus flower in the upper arm and in the lower arm. His character is completely auspicious. Sakandmata is seated on the lotus seat. That is why she is also called Padmasana Devi. The lion is his conveyance.
Lord Skanda is also known by the name 'Kumar Kartikeya'. He became the commander of the gods in the famous Devasura war. In the Puranas, their glory has been described by calling them Kumar and Shakti. Due to being the mother of this Lord Skanda, this form of Goddess Durga is known as Skandmata.
