Undoubtedly San Antonio has DEEP roots (& a LONG history) in METAL music; and throughout my tenure I have seen my fair share of bands come & go. Very few can stand the TRUE test of time & in my eyes be seen as 'LEGENDARY'; a term I don't use loosely, but one that conveys longevity, consistency & integrity. Doomers, Las Cruces definitely fit that bill & when their time transpires will be one of the VERY FEW to leave their LASTING mark on SA metal. Thank the METAL Gods that time has not yet arrived. I go WAY back with the band & for MANY years clamored over their sophomore effort, 'Ringmaster' as one of the GREATEST releases in our said history; and despite line-up changes, inner turmoil & even the passing of a dear friend,...the band, not only continues to live, but STRIVE. Earlier this Summer the band released their 4th official release in 'Cosmic Tears' (via Ripple Music) & upon first listen made me SO proud & happy for the band. They have once again come out on TOP delivering their signature slow, doomy blues. NOW coupled with the signature voice from one of our city's BEST in Mr. JASON KANE, 'Cosmic Tears', not only represents a grand new era for the band, but one that continues the LEGACY of SA metal! On July 16th, 2022 I had the opportunity to meet up with long standing axeman, MANDO TOVAR to talk ALL about it. SO in the interview below you will see us discuss the following: his history with his former band Alienation (& his acclamation into LC), the 'Lowest End' EP & 'Dusk' releases, the passing of drummer, Paul Deleon, the departure of original vocalist, Mark Zamarron (& the introduction of Jason Kane), the recording of CT, plans for the Fall & much more! I want to send BIG gratitude to Mando for giving us his ALL,....& for all the vodka shots 😉 Our brotherhood & what our metal community SHOULD be reflects in BOTH of us. Thank you for that!
