I haven't done much coastal photography before and on a recent trip to Dorset I took the opportunity to remedy this by going to Portland Bill to photograph the lighthouse.
Recently Gary Gough (youtube.com/user/redfivestudios) gave my channel a mention in one of his videos, and in that video he photographs New Brighton lighthouse, so armed with a map and inspired by not only Gary's plug, but his subject matter, I hunted for lighthouses! Portland Bill fit the... "bill" (apologies) perfectly. It's a classic red and white lighthouse that looks pristine out on the rocky headland and is surrounded by stunning coastal features. It's been well photographed, and for good reason, but choosing this as my main focal point allowed me to concentrate on other elements of the composition, and made for a very relaxing final shoot.
Also the photography gods smiled upon me that day I think, because not only did I get a fantastic subject and setting, but the weather was ideal :)
